At the Somerset, the opportunities are limitless.....
Beyond the many amenities and activities at The Somerset on Grace Bay, you’ll find a variety of things to do on land and sea on your Turks and Caicos vacation.
In no particular order, below are some of our favorites. The Concierge is pleased to assist in arranging guided tours and recommending activities for all members of your party.
Try kite boarding on Long Bay, located just five minutes away. It has perfect conditions year-round with ongoing breezes and shallow calm water for miles. Or just bring a picnic and watch the boarders easily slide back and forth across the bay.
Explore the seas by snorkeling or scuba diving along our world-famous coral reefs. Arrange for a snorkeling or scuba diving trip, or enjoy the reef located off our beach. There is a wall frequented by schools of African pompano, sea turtles, eagle rays, sharks and even dolphins and Humpback whales. Grace Bay can be a great place for beginning divers as the water is warm, shallow and tranquil.
Taste conch, the local seafood delicacy. Enjoy it ceviche-style in conch salad, fried, curried or other preparations. Try it fresh out of the ocean at one of Providenciales’ famous beach shacks with an ice-cold beer or rum punch, of course.
Try other local specialties, such as jerk chicken, conch fritters or freshly caught seafood, at the weekly Turks and Caicos Fish Fry. Mingle with visitors and locals over rum punch while dancing to rhythms of a steel band.
Hook your own fresh catch with a deep sea fishing charter. Tuna, Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Swordfish, Kingfish and Tarpon all can be found in the rich waters surrounding Turks and Caicos. Or take advantage of the amazing bone fishing found on the Caicos flats surrounding Provo.
See more of Turks and Caicos on your vacation with a day trip to other islands. Take a ferry or private boat to explore North or Middle Caicos. Located just minutes away from Providenciales, these other cays feature quiet shores and countryside. Learn more about the local culture of Turks and Caicos Islands by meeting local farmers and artisans. Wander tiny streets. Kayak remote marine preserves. Take a swim on a quiet beach or eat island cuisine with locals.
Animal lovers may want to bring home a lasting memory of their Turks and Caicos vacation by adopting a potcake, the name for the islands’ sweet, loving and loyal stray dogs. If you aren’t able to bring a new furry family member into your home but want to help out, there are many volunteer opportunities including spending a day at the beach with a potcake.
